Help/payment claiming explained
Payment claiming, explained
Plain-language guides to progress claims and payment claiming in Australia and New Zealand: what the words mean, and what the deadlines actually are.
Payment claiming has its own vocabulary, and most of it comes from legislation rather than from the way anyone talks on site. You do a progress claim at the end of the month. The Act calls that serving a payment claim for a reference date.
Security of Payment legislation gives you a fast, statutory route to getting paid, but it is a route with doors that close. A claim served a day outside its window may not be a payment claim under the Act at all. A head contractor who misses the schedule deadline becomes liable for the full amount you claimed. Those consequences attach to the statutory terms, which is why the platform uses them and explains them here.
You do not need to learn any of this to use the product. It is here for the moment you want to know why the platform is asking.

General information, not legal advice
These guides describe how the legislation works in general terms and how the platform models it. They are not advice about your contract or your situation, and the platform is not a law firm. Where a deadline matters, check the Act, and get advice if anything is at stake.
Still stuck?
Every page in the app has a Help control in the header, and it carries a Contact support link that opens an email to a human on the operating team. Tell us what you were doing and what you expected; if the platform got something wrong, we want the example.
